Barbara Pollak-Lewis serves as an adjunct lecturer across three institutions: California College of the Arts (CCA), Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and Boston University. At CCA, she holds multiple instructional roles including Pre-College Instructor, YASP & Atelier Youth Programs Instructor, and Atelier Instructor, specializing in portfolio development and figure drawing for teens. Her career bridges academic instruction with professional art practice in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Education:
- BFA in Film/Animation/Video from Rhode Island School of Design
- MA in Art Education from Boston University (completed during 2020 lockdown)
Pollak-Lewis's research and practice center on expressive art education methodologies, particularly through the human form in painting. Her teaching integrates traditional media (charcoal, oil) with digital tools (Procreate, Photoshop), emphasizing observational drawing and emotional expression. She actively curates exhibitions at Arc Gallery to showcase Bay Area diversity, connecting community engagement with artistic development.
Her instructional portfolio spans youth programs at CCA's Atelier, remote continuing education at RISD ("Start Drawing!"), and graduate workshops at Boston University. Current teaching includes San Francisco Public Library portfolio classes for teens and upcoming Fall 2025 courses in 2-D Portfolio Prep and high school figure drawing at CCA. Pollak-Lewis maintains a painting studio with her "Boxed" series (2022-2025) and participates in exhibitions like "Women Rising 2024" and "Access: An Ordinary Notion" at Arc Gallery.
