Barbara Nagy serves as an assistant professor at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts since 2023, teaching in the Department of Painting. Previously, she held academic positions including lecturer at Óbuda University's Miklós Ybl Faculty of Architecture (2022) and Head of the Painting-Graphics Department at Tihamér Vujicsics AMI in Szentendre (2019-2022).
Her educational foundation includes a DLA from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (2009-2012) following painting studies under Dóra Maurer (2000-2005). Nagy's artistic research centers on painting and graphic arts with rigorous exploration of geometric abstraction and concrete art forms, examining light, shadow, and structural composition through works like Etched Forms (2022) and The Garden of Art (2018).
As an active critical voice, she contributes to major Hungarian art publications including Élet és Irodalom and Balkon, while maintaining curatorial practices at Mank and OSAS. Her exhibition trajectory shows consistent international engagement, particularly with geometric/concrete art movements across Central Europe.
Nagy's recognition includes the prestigious Munkácsy Award (2024) and Esterházy Art Award (2018), with recent works like Hiding Melancholy I. (2024) and Asphalt Sea III (2025) demonstrating ongoing material innovation. Based at Szentendre's New Artists' Colony, she remains deeply embedded in Hungary's contemporary art ecosystem through associations including OSAS and the Szentendre Graphic Workshop.
