Dr. Barbara Lopes Cardozo is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Emory University, affiliated with the Rollins School of Public Health (Hubert Department of Global Health) and the School of Medicine (Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences). She has worked as a psychiatric epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for 17 years, pioneering mental health and psychosocial programs in humanitarian emergencies. She provides psychiatric care at the International Medical Center, Grady Hospital, and teaches courses on public health and mental health in emergencies at Emory University, the University of Washington, and the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam.

As a founding member of Doctors without Borders (MSF) – Holland, she contributed to missions in the Armenian Earthquake, Armero Volcano disaster, Peru cholera epidemic, and conflict zones in Somalia, Uganda, Haiti, and Nicaragua. She supervises psychiatry residents at Clarkston Community Health Center in Atlanta.
