Barbara Hammer is a Professor of Machine Learning at the Centre of Cognitive Interaction Technologies (CITEC), Bielefeld University, Germany. Holding a full professorship since 2017, she previously served as Associate Professor (2004-2010) at Clausthal University of Technology and held guest professorships at institutions including University of Paris Pantheon-Sorbonne. Her academic journey includes research stays at institutions in India, Italy, USA, and UK.

Her research spans machine learning methods for non-vectorial and neuro-symbolic data, with a focus on explainable AI and continual learning.
