Prof. Barbara Göbel is an Honorary Professor at the Freie Universität Berlin and Director of the Ibero-American Institute (IAI) in Berlin. She leads the Mecila project on conviviality and inequality in Latin America and chairs the German Latin American Studies Association (ADLAF). Her research focuses on socio-ecological inequalities, knowledge infrastructures, and digital transformation in collection institutions. She holds roles in the interim board of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK) and serves on national/international review committees.
Education & Career: Studied social anthropology, prehistory, and economic/social history. Taught as visiting professor in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, and the U.S. Completed doctorate with interdisciplinary research.
