Barbara F. Brandt serves as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Care and Health Systems at the University of Minnesota's College of Pharmacy, while also directing the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education. Her work bridges academic healthcare education with practical implementation of interprofessional models across healthcare systems.
Dr. Brandt's research interests focus on interprofessional education and practice, with particular emphasis on developing learning models, creating standardized data sets for knowledge generation, and implementing collaborative practice frameworks. Her work examines how healthcare professionals from different disciplines can effectively work together to improve patient outcomes and healthcare system performance.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on the NexusIPE learning model, national center initiatives for interprofessional practice, and strategies for implementing interprofessional education in higher education settings. The research demonstrates consistent attention to practical implementation challenges and system-level changes needed to support collaborative care models.
As Principal Investigator on multiple significant grants, Dr. Brandt has led projects funded by major organizations including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, and US Department of Health & Human Services. Current projects include Nexus Learning System Support (2019-2024) and Advancing and Sustaining Interprofessional Practice and Education Through National Center Initiatives.
