Dr. Barbara Engebretsen is a Professor in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Sport at Wayne State College (WSC). She specializes in exercise science, public health, and global health, coordinating the development of a Public and Global Health minor and proposing an interdisciplinary One Health Studies major set for Fall 2024 implementation. She authored the textbook Applied Perspectives of Personal, Public, and Global Health.

Research & Service: Focuses on One Health interdisciplinary approaches addressing social, environmental, and historical health determinants. Active in professional organizations including the American Physiological Society, American College of Sports Medicine, and Rotary International. Served as advisor for ACSM Exercise Is Medicine on Campus and co-advisor for WSC Rotaract clubs.
Awards:
- Fulbright Global Scholar (2017-2018) for health capacity projects in Ethiopia and Nepal
- Multiple Rotary recognitions including 2011, 2014, 2016 Wayne Rotarian of the Year
Her work emphasizes collaboration among diverse stakeholders to improve health outcomes for people, animals, and the environment through a One Health framework.
