Barbara Brown Wilson

Barbara Brown Wilson is Associate Professor of Urban and Environmental Planning at the University of Virginia School of Architecture and co-founder of UVA's Equity Center. She holds a PhD in Community & Regional Planning from UT Austin and teaches courses like Methods of Community Engagement and Climate Justice in Cities.

Her research examines community-driven design for equitable climate resilience, analyzing how grassroots movements shape urban environments. Key publications investigate:

• Participatory planning failures and equity gaps
• University roles in community wealth building
• Housing justice through collaborative preservation
• Historical health disparities in urban renewal

She co-founded the Design Futures Student Leadership Forum and serves on the Community Climate Collaborative board. Applied projects include NSF-funded climate equity initiatives.
