Dr. Barbara Breitschopf is a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, specializing in socio-economic aspects of energy transitions. She holds a PhD from the University of Hohenheim and a Master of Arts in Economics from Ohio State University. Her work focuses on energy policy design, financing of renewable energy projects, and the socio-economic impacts of the energy transition. She concurrently serves as a lecturer at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in resource economics.
Key projects include leading analyses for the European Commission on energy policy frameworks, including the design of auctions for renewable energy support, cost-benefit assessments, and studies on district heating perceptions. She has contributed to high-profile initiatives like the SOITec project on socio-economic indicators and the EnTEC program evaluating energy policies.
Her research spans over 50 peer-reviewed publications and reports, addressing topics such as energy transition financing, renewable integration, and policy evaluation. She frequently collaborates with international organizations and governments to develop actionable insights for sustainable energy systems.
