Barbara Alexander

Barbara Alexander is Billy S. Guyton Distinguished Professor directing the Analytical and Assay Laboratory at UMMC. Her NIH-funded research investigates developmental programming of hypertension, particularly sex-specific mechanisms in low birth weight offspring.

Landmark studies established renal denervation and RAS modulation as key mechanisms in fetal programming of hypertension. Recent work explores therapeutic interventions for preeclampsia and IUGR. Honored with the Harriet Dustan Award and APS Fellowship.
