معرفی
Barbara A Shipman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Texas at Arlington (College of Science). Her work bridges topology, differential geometry, and mathematics education, with a focus on geometric intuition and pedagogical innovation. She has received multiple teaching awards, including the 2024 Champions Breakfast for Experiential Learning and 2023 Professor of the Year Award.
- PhD in Mathematics (1995), BS in Mathematics (1989) from the University of Arizona
Her research explores topological structures in arithmetic, geometric representations of surfaces, and integrable systems. She led NSF-funded projects like SURGE and Capstone Experiences in Mathematics, emphasizing undergraduate success.
Recent publications span topics from continuity visualization in PRIMUS to nonlinear phenomena in Physica D. She has advised numerous honors theses and served on editorial boards, including PRIMUS and Physica D.
- Federal Grants: SURGE scholarships (2013-2024), Capstone projects (2009-2012)
- Service: UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers (2016-present), Core Curriculum Committee (2023-present), and promotion/tenure committees
The Barbara Shipman Collection of petrified wood (2024-present) in Earth and Environmental Sciences highlights her interdisciplinary interests.
