Professor Banafshe Larijani is a leading academic in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Bath, where she has served as Director of the Centre for Therapeutic Innovation (2019–2025) and now leads the international Consortium for Precision Health (CPH). Her work bridges biophysics and translational medicine to advance precision diagnostics and therapies.
Research Interests:
- Cell Biophysics and quantitative imaging (FRET-FLIM)
- Lipid and signal transduction pathways
- Nuclear envelope biogenesis
- Functional proteomics in cancer diagnostics
- Precision medicine and immuno-oncology
Her recent research focuses on the tumor immune microenvironment, immune checkpoint regulation, and molecular imaging in cancers such as melanoma and renal cell carcinoma. She has pioneered the application of biophysical tools to clinical challenges in oncology.
Scientific Awards:
- European Award for best predictive cancer diagnostic test
- French Award for best predictive cancer diagnostic test
Advising and Grants: She has trained 26 PhD students and currently accepts doctoral candidates. She leads significant research projects funded by The Royal Society, MRC, and the EU Commission, including 'MITIGATE: HUMAN INNERVATED, VASCULARIZED, AND IMMUNIZED TUMOURS-ON-CHIP' and 'MRC P2D - Showcase Event'.
Labs and Teams: She heads the Cell Biophysics laboratory at Bath, a cross-disciplinary platform integrating physical sciences with biological research. She also leads the Consortium for Precision Health, fostering collaboration between academics and clinicians.
