Professor Bamini Gopinath holds the inaugural Cochlear Chair in Hearing and Health at Macquarie University, leading the Public Health and Policy Pillar of MU Hearing. As an epidemiologist, she specializes in population health studies focusing on sensory loss and disability. Her research translates findings into health policy, addressing gaps in Australian healthcare.
She holds an honorary professorship at the University of Sydney. Key research areas include improving hearing loss support, early intervention strategies, and preventing sensory disability progression. Her work has produced over 275 peer-reviewed papers and garnered 400+ media stories, reaching 210 million people globally.
Notable projects include the Australian Eye and Ear Health Survey and the HEarHealth online support service for hearing-impaired individuals. Awards include the 2018 Chinese University of Hong Kong Internationalisation Faculty Mobility Award.
