Antal Balog serves as a Research Professor in the Number Theory department at the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest. His academic work centers on foundational number theory with applications in combinatorial mathematics and prime distribution.
His research spans critical areas including:
- Analytic Number Theory
- Distribution of Prime Numbers
- Sieve Methods
- Automorphic Functions
- Additive Combinatorics
- Sum-product estimates
Professor Balog has received two major honors recognizing his contributions to mathematical sciences:
- Erdős Pál Prize (1993) from Magyar Tudományos Akadémia
- Rényi Prize (1991) from Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics
He currently leads research projects funded by grants for “Spectral methods on arithmetic manifolds” and “Additive Problems and Fourier Analysis”, while teaching specialized courses like “Analytic Number Theory” and “Additive Combinatorics” through the Budapest Semester in Mathematics program.
