Prof. Balaji R. Jagirdar is a Professor in the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. He has held progressively senior roles at IISc since 1995, including Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and full Professor since 2011. His research focuses on Organometallic Chemistry and Nanomaterials, with applications in catalysis and materials science.
Education:
- M.Sc. from IIT-Bombay (1987-89)
- Ph.D. from Kansas State University (1989-93) under Prof. Ken Klabunde
- Post-doctoral research at University of Colorado (1994-95) with Prof. Mary Rakowski DuBois
His research group investigates transition metal complexes and nanomaterials for catalytic applications, particularly in homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. The work spans inorganic chemistry, materials chemistry, and green chemistry approaches.
