Bahadir Tarhan

Bahadir Tarhan is a Research Assistant at the Centre for Robotics and Assembly, affiliated with Cranfield University's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. He holds a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from KTO Karatay University (2020) and an MSc in Communication and Signal Processing from Newcastle University (2021). Currently pursuing a PhD at Cranfield University since September 2023, his research focuses on flexible robotic grippers, with a 2025 publication in Frontiers in Manufacturing Technology analyzing design principles, actuation methods, and control strategies for robotic gripping systems.

Research Interests encompass the development of versatile robotic gripping systems, with emphasis on hybrid designs combining rigid and soft components, advanced actuation mechanisms (pneumatic, hydraulic, servo-electric), and sensor integration for real-time adaptability. His work addresses critical challenges in autonomous grasping, object perception, and uncertainty management, aiming to advance robotic manipulation in industrial and healthcare contexts.

Recent Publications demonstrate expertise in classifying robotic grippers, comparing actuation methods, and exploring sensorless sensing technologies. The 2025 review article covers 72 studies from the past 15 years, establishing a comprehensive design workflow for robotic grippers and analyzing performance trade-offs between different gripper types (two-finger, three-finger, hybrid, electro-adhesive).

Research Supervision includes collaboration with Dr. Seemal Asif (Senior Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics) and Professor Phil Webb (Royal Academy of Engineering Airbus Chair in Aerospace Systems Design).
