Dr Baden Pailthorpe is a Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University's School of Art & Design, serving as Program Convenor for the Bachelor of Design. He is a founding member of the Justice and Technoscience (JusTech) Lab at ANU RegNet and co-convenor of the Computational Culture Lab. His research explores data, bodies, and space through digital creative practice, emerging technologies, and community engagement. He holds a PhD from UNSW Sydney, an MFA in Digital Media from Université Paris 8, and advanced degrees in Photomedia and French Studies from UNSW and the University of Sydney.
Key collaborations include projects with Adam Goodes focusing on Indigenous Data Sovereignty. His work spans installations, digital interventions, and public art, featured globally in institutions like the Centre Pompidou (Paris), Triennale di Milano, and the Australian War Memorial. Collections include Artbank, the Australian Parliament House Art Collection, and UQ Art Museum. He led the memorySCAPE project (2019–2021), exploring war commemoration through digital narratives.
Recent research outputs highlight themes of data sovereignty, speculative technoscience, and collaborative art practices. He actively supervises students in creative and interdisciplinary research, emphasizing ethical technology use and community-driven innovation.
