Babar Hussain

Dr. Babar Hussain is a Tutor in Filmmaking at the School of Digital Arts (SODA), Manchester Metropolitan University. His research focuses on the portrayal of masculinities in contemporary world cinemas, particularly in Pakistani cinema, analyzing intersections between sociopolitical dynamics, religious discourses, and cultural paradigms. He holds a PhD in Film Studies from the University of the Arts London, where his thesis examined evolving masculinity narratives in Pakistani cinema amid sociopolitical upheaval and Islamic ideologies.

His work extends to transnational perspectives, exploring how geopolitics, religious identity, and cultural memory shape global cinematic masculinities. He has presented at international conferences like the British Association of South Asian Studies and the British Association of Film Television and Screen Studies. Current projects include a monograph on Pakistani cinema masculinities (forthcoming 2026) and collaborative research on Muslim representation in Bollywood.

Dr. Hussain has held visiting roles at the University for the Creative Arts (UK) and Lahore School of Economics (Pakistan). His research bridges critical theory, postcolonial studies, and film analysis, contributing to debates on gender, power, and cultural resistance in global cinema.
