Dr. Babak Fahimi is a Distinguished Engineering Chair and Professor in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas), part of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. He holds 23 U.S. patents with five pending and has authored over 400 scientific articles. His research focuses on power electronics, renewable energy systems, fault-tolerant energy solutions, and advanced motor drive technologies, particularly for vehicular and industrial applications. Dr. Fahimi leads the Renewable Energy and Vehicular Technology (REVT) Lab, emphasizing energy-efficient solutions and reducing reliance on foreign energy resources.
He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University (1999). His work has earned prestigious awards including the IEEE Richard M. Bass Award, IEEE Cyril Veinott Award, and SAE Ralph Teetor Educational Award. He is an IEEE Fellow recognized for contributions to AC motor drive modeling.
Research highlights include sensorless motor control, high-torque-density machines, wireless power transfer optimization, and energy management systems for microgrids. The REVT lab’s innovations span electric vehicle propulsion, renewable energy integration, and advanced materials for electric machines.
