Babak Anasori is the Reilly Rising Star Associate Professor at Purdue University's Schools of Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on 2D transition metal carbides and nitrides (MXenes), with applications in energy storage, carbon capture, aerospace, and biomedical fields. He leads the Layered Materials and Structures Lab (LMSL) in Indianapolis and a new West Lafayette lab, emphasizing student mentorship and innovation.
Education: B.Sc. from Sharif University of Technology (Iran), M.Sc. from University of Tehran, Ph.D. in Materials Science from Drexel University (2013). His work on MXenes has earned global recognition, including rankings as a top materials scholar.
Research interests include MXene synthesis, electrochemical applications, tribology, and nanomaterials for extreme environments. He is Editor-in-Chief of Graphene and 2D Materials. Awards include the 2024 Kavli Lectureship and Materials Today Rising Star Award.
