معرفی
BM Bakker is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Science in the Systems Biology department at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). He also holds an ancillary position as Universitair Docent (Associate Professor) at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) since 2009. His research focuses on metabolic pathways, beta oxidation, and metabolic disorders, with particular emphasis on organoid models and cellular biology.
Key research interests include the study of metabolic diseases using iPSC-derived liver organoids, the role of fatty acids in heart failure, and the impact of gestational hyperglycemia on offspring metabolism. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being.
Recent publications highlight advancements in understanding short-chain fatty acids in cardiovascular disease, medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiencies, and the role of docosahexaenoic acid in malnutrition models. His collaborative networks span international research institutions, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to metabolic research.
Bakker has supervised three PhD theses and maintains affiliations with the Amsterdam Institute for Molecular and Life Sciences (AIMMS). His lab focuses on translational research bridging basic science and clinical applications in metabolic disorders.
