BARUCK OKAL OPIYO

Asst. Prof. Dr. Baruck Okal Opiyo is an academic in the Department of Public Relations and Advertising at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), located in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. He holds a PhD in Mass Communication from the University of Iowa (1991-1994), an MA in Journalism (1988-1991), and a BA in English Literature and Mass Communication from Punjab University (1988-1984).

His research interests focus on public relations strategies, advertising effectiveness, crisis communication, and media analysis. Notable work includes studies on source credibility in advertising, government image repair in post-genocide contexts, and sustainable development practices in Nigeria. He has supervised multiple PhD and Master’s theses, including ongoing research on Nigerian private sector sustainability and post-genocide Rwanda's media strategies.

Prof. Opiyo is affiliated with EMU's Public Relations and Advertising department, located in Office FCMS-M310. He has contributed to academic programs and research projects within the university’s strategic communication framework.
