B.J. Köbben is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Geo-Information Processing at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente. He joined ITC in 1997 after working for 9 years as a Lecturer in Cartography at Utrecht University, where he completed his MSc in Geography with a specialisation in Cartography. ITC became an official faculty of the University of Twente in 2010.

Research Interests: His expertise spans Cartography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geospatial Visualization, Web Mapping, and Geo-Web Services. He focuses on cartographic visualisation pipelines, web-based geospatial applications, and theoretical cartographic frameworks, integrating these into practical teaching modules for international students.
Advising and Coordination: He actively supervises Master of Science (MSc) theses and serves as coordinator for the thesis semester of the Erasmus Mundus Joined Master in Cartography program, collaborating with Technical Universities of Munich, Dresden, and Vienna to structure research components for multinational cohorts.
