B.J. Fregly is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering & Bioengineering at Rice University, holding the title of CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research. He serves as College Magister of Brown College. His expertise spans computational neuromechanics, orthopedic surgery optimization, and neurorehabilitation engineering. He has secured over $11M in research funding from NSF, NIH, NASA, and CPRIT.

Research focuses on patient-specific neuromusculoskeletal models to optimize treatments for movement disorders. Key projects include designing surgical plans for pelvic sarcoma, robotic neurorehabilitation for stroke patients, and exercise protocols for astronauts. His NASA-funded work addresses muscle mass preservation during Mars missions, while NIH grants target personalized FES therapy for stroke recovery.
