B. Kump is an Assistant Professor at the University of Twente, affiliated with the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS), specifically within the High-tech Business and Entrepreneurship (BMS-HBE) and Entrepreneurship, Technology, Management (BMS-HBE-ETM) research groups. His work bridges organizational theory, sustainability, and institutional change, focusing on how businesses can contribute to broader societal sustainability transitions.
His research interests lie in organizational and institutional change toward sustainability, the dynamics of established organizations adopting sustainable practices, the role of grassroots innovations such as food and energy cooperatives, and the influence of individual actors—including managers, employees, and researchers—in driving transformation. He integrates insights from cognitive psychology, business administration, and knowledge management to understand learning systems and organizational evolution.
B. Kump has been recognized for his scholarly contributions, including receiving the EURAM 2018 Most Inspirational Conference Paper Award. He actively promotes engaged scholarship, aiming to translate academic knowledge into practical applications for sustainability. He is a co-founder and regular contributor to the German science transfer blog www.wissensdialoge.de, demonstrating a strong commitment to public and practitioner engagement.
He has advised and collaborated extensively with small and medium enterprises (SMEs), particularly during his tenure at Vienna University of Applied Sciences, where he worked with approximately 25 SMEs to enhance their dynamic capabilities. His research has been published in top-tier journals such as Organization Studies, Human Relations, Organization Theory, Industrial and Corporate Change, International Journal of Management Reviews, and Business Strategy & the Environment.
B. Kump leads interdisciplinary research initiatives that connect computer science models with social science methodologies. His work emphasizes user-centered case studies and the evolution of knowledge within organizations. He brings practical experience as a trained consultant and business coach, further strengthening the applied relevance of his scholarship.
