Dr. B. Courtney Doagoo is a Senior Research Associate and Director of Strategy and Program Development at the University Research Chair in Technology and Society and the AI + Society Initiative at the University of Ottawa's Centre for Law, Technology and Society. She also serves as a University Research Chair in Technology and Society. Her roles include strategic development, research leadership, and collaboration across academic and non-academic sectors.
Education: PhD in Intellectual Property Law (2013-2017, University of Ottawa), Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Technology Governance and Policy at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI).
Research Focus: Explores frontier technologies, public policy frameworks, societal impacts of AI and robotics, and intersectional analysis of technology governance. Collaborates on projects such as the Canadian Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Ethical Design Lab (CRAiEDL) with Dr. Jason Millar.
Advisory & Governance: Advised Dr. Florian Martin-Bariteau on the AI + Society Initiative (2020–2022). Currently serves as Director on the Board of Dark Matter Labs (Canada) and Senior Advisor for the Business for Peace Foundation (Norway).
Labs & Initiatives: Co-developed the CRAiEDL, a multidisciplinary lab addressing ethical AI design. Active in global stakeholder networks including academia, intergovernmental bodies, and corporate sectors.
