Bülent Akot is a Professor and Head of the Department of Sufism at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. He joined the university in 2014 after holding faculty and administrative roles at Bitlis Eren University (2010–2014), including Director of the School of Social Sciences and Head of the Sociology Department. He earned his PhD in Sufism (2010) and Master's in Religious Psychology (2005) from Ankara University, following a Bachelor's in Theology (2002).
Research Focus
Akot's interdisciplinary research integrates Sufism, Theology, Psychology of Religion, and Sociology of Religion. He examines Sufi thought through historical, psychological, and sociological lenses, with emphasis on mystical practices, ethical frameworks, and the intersection of spirituality with human behavior. His work frequently involves textual analysis of classical Islamic manuscripts and contemporary applications of Sufi principles.
Publications and Projects
Akot has authored 95+ international publications, including 13 books (e.g., Derviş Sözlük, Tasavvuf I/II) and edited 57 volumes (e.g., 34-volume Kavram Atlası Külliyatı). His articles focus on Sufi figures, conceptual analysis, and religious psychology, with recent trends emphasizing biographical and regional studies. He also produced 238 video publications (~2,000 minutes) and holds 1 patent.
