Ayelet Voskoboynik is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Stanford University, specializing in comparative immunology and stem cell biology. Her research focuses on the colonial chordate Botryllus schlosseri, using it to explore stem cell niches, aging, and immune system evolution.
- Postdoctoral Fellow, Stanford University (Stem Cell Biology, 2006)
- Ph.D, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (Cell Biology, 2001)
- M.Sc, Tel-Aviv University (Zoology, 1995)
- B.Sc, Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Animal Science, 1991)
Her work has established Botryllus schlosseri as a critical model for studying:
- Stem cell biology and regeneration mechanisms
- Allorecognition and immune system evolution
- Neurodegeneration and aging pathways
- Developmental duality (sexual vs. asexual)
- Hematopoietic system evolution
- Novel sequencing methodologies (SLR, sc-SPLASH)
Recent research trends highlight her focus on single-cell sequencing, neural degeneration pathways, and comparative embryogenesis. She led the creation of the Tabula compositi chordate, an atlas characterizing Botryllus's developmental modes.
