Ayca Erdogan

Ayca Erdogan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at San José State University (SJSU), joining in 2014. Previously, she served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California (USC) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine. She holds a PhD in Operations Research from North Carolina State University and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Istanbul Technical University.

Her research focuses on decision-making under uncertainty, particularly in healthcare operations. Key areas include optimizing patient scheduling in outpatient clinics, improving equity in specialty care access, and analyzing cost-effectiveness of medical interventions like lung cancer screening. She also explores telemedicine resource allocation and wildfire response strategies through spatial optimization models.

Her work bridges operations research and healthcare policy, with notable contributions to surgical block allocation, provider schedule balancing, and distributionally robust scheduling frameworks. Recent publications emphasize applying stochastic optimization to real-world challenges in health systems and emergency management.

Erdogan’s educational background in industrial engineering and operations research provides a strong foundation for her interdisciplinary research, which combines mathematical modeling with practical healthcare applications.
