Ayal Anis is Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Marine and Coastal Environmental Science at Texas A&M University at Galveston. He earned his Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from Oregon State University (1994), an M.S. in Applied Physics from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1984), and a B.S. in Physics from Tel-Aviv University (1982).
His research investigates turbulence mixing, coastal hydrodynamics, and environmental processes in estuarine and marine systems. Anis examines mechanisms driving water column mixing, including wind-driven circulation, internal waves, and tidal dynamics, with field studies conducted in diverse environments from the Arabian Gulf to Galveston Bay.
Publications focus on quantifying mixing processes through field observations and modeling, documenting how meteorological events like Shamal winds impact regional hydrodynamics.
He has secured significant research funding from NSF, CONACYT-SENER-HIDROCARBUROS, and Qatar National Research Foundation for studies on hydrocarbon transport, desalination impacts, and multi-scale hydrodynamics modeling.
