Aya Abdelmeguid is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Design for the Circular Economy at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford, affiliated with the ZERO Institute (Zero-carbon Energy Research Oxford). She contributes to the UKRI-funded Circular Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) Project, collaborating with over 24 partners across the EEE value chain to advance the UK's transition to a low-carbon circular economy.
Her educational background includes a PhD from Cranfield University, where she employed systems-thinking to investigate circular economy challenges, consumer behaviour, industry trends, and transition strategies. Her research spans Circular Economy, Sustainability, and Systems Thinking, with specific applications in waste electrical equipment and fashion industries.
Recent publications (2022-2024) reveal a strong focus on circular economy implementation in fashion, utilizing methodologies like systematic reviews, fuzzy TISM analysis, and social media topic modelling. These studies systematically analyze barriers, management strategies, and consumer behaviour patterns across the value chain, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable design and waste reduction.
She actively participates in the Circular EEE Project at the ZERO Institute, working within a multidisciplinary consortium to develop circular product-service systems and promote sustainable consumer behaviours through public engagement initiatives.
