Axel Rudi is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Social Anthropology, University of Oslo, since August 2024. His research investigates sovereignty, state formation, political violence, and emerging topics like drones and apocalypticism, primarily in Kurdistan (Iraqi, Turkish, Syrian) and Germany.
- Education: PhD (2019) and MA (2014) from University of Bergen and University of Chicago
- Research Focus: Kurdish movement, Iraqi Kurdish pseudo-state, sovereignty theory
- Teaching: Courses on Anthropology of Religion (1400) and Economic Anthropology (1300)
His research interests center on sovereignty’s ethnographic dimensions, political violence, and ritualized power dynamics. Recent work explores drone technology’s sociopolitical implications and apocalyptic narratives in contemporary movements.
