Dr. Awni Etaywe is a lecturer in linguistics at the Faculty of Arts and Society, specializing in forensic linguistics with a focus on countering violent extremism (CVE), cyber-terrorist communication, and digital deviance. He explores the semiotics of peace, compassion, and empathy in activist discourse, particularly within resistance movements and environmental activism.

His research bridges peacebuilding and counter-extremism through linguistic analysis, leveraging social semiotics, rhetoric analysis, NLP, AI, and discourse/corpus techniques. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peaceful Societies) and employs innovative methodologies to analyze disinformation, polarization, and grievance in extremist narratives.
