Avneesh Chhabra

Avneesh Chhabra, M.D., MBA, is a Professor of Radiology and Chief of the Musculoskeletal Radiology Division at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He also serves as Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging at Parkland Memorial Hospital. His expertise spans clinical practice, research, and education in musculoskeletal radiology, with a focus on 3D MRI/CT imaging, magnetic resonance neurography (MRN), and sarcoma imaging. Dr. Chhabra earned his MBBS in India, completed radiology residencies in India and the U.S., and a musculoskeletal fellowship at Temple University. He holds an Executive MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas.

His research emphasizes advancing diagnostic imaging techniques, including novel applications of 3D imaging for sports medicine, neuropathy, and sarcoma management. He pioneered guidelines like NS-RADS and OT-RADS for peripheral neuropathy and sarcoma imaging. Dr. Chhabra is actively involved in national and international radiology organizations, including the American College of Radiology and the International Skeletal Society. He has delivered keynote lectures globally and authored over 320 peer-reviewed publications, two textbooks, and 33 book chapters. His awards include the Young Investigator Award from the Society of Skeletal Radiology and the GE Radiology Research Academic Fellowship.

Clinically, Dr. Chhabra translates research into patient care, using MRN to guide perineural injections and surgical planning. He advocates for diversity in radiology, leading the International Skeletal Society’s DEI committee. Beyond academia, he is passionate about cricket, tennis, and cooking traditional Indian cuisine.
