Avinash Dongare is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Connecticut. His research focuses on computational materials science, including density functional theory simulations, molecular dynamics, and mesoscale modeling. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia (2008).
- Education: Ph.D., Materials Science, University of Virginia, 2008
Dr. Dongare’s research interests span electronic properties, phase stability, deformation behavior, and phase transformations in materials. His work integrates multiscale modeling approaches such as quasi-coarse-graining and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations. Key contributions include advancing computational frameworks for predicting material behavior under extreme conditions.
- Awards:
- NSF CAREER Award (2015)
- TMS Young Leader Award (2015)
- UConn Outstanding Faculty Award (2014-2015)
His research has been supported by grants from the NSF and U.S. Army Research Laboratory. Dr. Dongare leads a research group focused on computational materials discovery and has collaborated with national labs. His lab develops novel methods to bridge atomic-scale phenomena with macroscopic material properties.
