Dr. Avijita Jain is a Professor in the Madia Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), affiliated with the John J. and Char Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. She holds a BS from Barkatullah University, MS from Tennessee Technological University, PhD from Virginia Tech, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
Her research focuses on bioinorganic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, and biochemistry. Key projects include developing tumor-selective photodynamic therapy agents, water oxidation electrocatalysts, and fluorescent sensors for protein phosphorylation. Her work explores ruthenium-based metal complexes for antibacterial applications, bimetallic systems for medicinal uses, and photoactive materials in drug design.
Dr. Jain’s publications span topics like photocatalytic DNA inhibition, ligand exchange kinetics, and electrocatalytic formate oxidation. Her research bridges inorganic chemistry with biomedical and energy applications. While no awards or grants are explicitly listed, her work reflects significant contributions to transition metal complex design and applications.
She teaches courses including Drug Design and Bioinorganic Chemistry and College Chemistry. Her lab focuses on interdisciplinary projects at the interface of bioinorganic chemistry and materials science.
