Austin Madson is an Assistant Professor at the Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WyGISC), part of the University of Wyoming's School of Computing. He holds a PhD, MA, and BA in Geography from UCLA. His research focuses on remote sensing technologies like InSAR, LiDAR, and UAV-based methods to study hydrologic and geomorphologic changes, with applications in geodesy, cluster computing, and low-cost GNSS hardware. He teaches courses in Remote Sensing and UAVs within the GIST framework.
Education:
- PhD in Geography, University of California-Los Angeles, 2020
- MA in Geography, University of California-Los Angeles
- BA in Geography, University of California-Los Angeles
Research Interests: His work integrates advanced remote sensing techniques with computational modeling to address challenges in hydrology, landslide kinematics, and geodetic monitoring. He emphasizes open-source programming, sensor fusion, and real-world applications of RS/GIS technologies. Current projects include continental-scale water level monitoring, reservoir-induced deformation analysis, and landslide dynamics using SAR and UAV data.
Labs/Teams: Active in WyGISC, leading projects involving field instrumentation and low-cost sensor development. Collaborates on initiatives like the Slumgullion Landslide study and Tibetan Plateau hydrology research.
