Previously, he completed his master’s and Ph.D. in Economics at George Mason University (GMU), with a dissertation titled “Rationality on the Fringes.” He earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Virginia. Dr. Hardy’s educational background includes:
- B.A. in Economics, University of Virginia
- M.A. in Economics, George Mason University
- Ph.D. in Economics, George Mason University
His research interests revolve around understanding how individual interactions shape emergent institutions and enhance welfare. He emphasizes “viewing human behavior as fundamentally purposive” and examines economic principles in contexts deemed unconventional, such as the discovery processes in markets. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis, particularly in shadow markets and digital economies.
His scholarship trends reveal a focus on non-traditional economic systems, including street economies, dark net networks, and reputation dynamics in the Deep Web. These studies highlight interdisciplinary approaches, combining economics with sociology and cybersecurity to model complex interactions.
In teaching, Hardy has instructed courses at GMU such as Introductory and Intermediate Microeconomics, Public Choice, Money and Banking, and International Economic Policy. He has no listed advisees or grants at this time.
