Audrey Ettinger is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Biological Sciences department at Cedar Crest College. Her research bridges neuroscience and behavioral biology, focusing on stem cell fate determination and social behavior in cichlid fish, with recent work extending to neurodegenerative disease therapies using chick neurons.
- Education: A.B. from Bryn Mawr College, Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis.
Her lab investigates adult stem cell differentiation in cichlid retinas and explores neural mechanisms behind aggression and reproductive behavior in these fish. She also studies the neuroprotective potential of herbal remedies like Ginkgo biloba in stroke models.
Inspired by her students, colleagues, and family, Ettinger emphasizes clear scientific communication and the societal role of educators. She maintains strong ties to her academic roots, having been influenced by her parents (a medical professor and retired high school teacher) and mentors during her formative years.
