Aubrey Hillman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Atmospheric & Environmental Sciences at the University at Albany. She joined in Spring 2021 after serving as a Byrd Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at The Ohio State University and an assistant professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Her research focuses on reconstructing past climate change and human activities through lake sediment analysis, with emphasis on climate variability, environmental pollution, and human-environment interactions.
Dr. Hillman holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Pittsburgh. Her work spans multiple regions including the Yunnan Plateau (China), India's Loktak Lake, Peru's Andes, and North America. She employs multidisciplinary approaches combining geochemistry, sedimentology, and paleolimnology to address global climate questions and anthropogenic impacts.
Her recent publications (2023–2025) highlight themes such as legacy metal contamination recovery in US lakes, monsoon variability in South Asia, and human-driven environmental changes in lake ecosystems. Notable projects include a 50,000-year Indian monsoon record and analyses of camelid domestication impacts in Peru.
Though no awards are explicitly listed, her extensive collaborative research network (e.g., NSF-funded projects) underscores her contributions to paleoclimatology and environmental science. She advises no listed students but actively engages in international research partnerships through lake sediment core initiatives.
