Atmadeep Bhattacharya is a Research Fellow at Aalto University's Department of Energy and Mechanical Engineering, focusing on combustion science and alternative fuels. His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to affordable and clean energy (SDG 7) and climate action (SDG 13). He holds a Doctoral degree in Engineering and Technology (conferred 2018).
His research interests include chemical kinetics of combustion, fuel-air mixing dynamics in engines, and the development of low-carbon fuels. He has pioneered studies on super adiabatic combustion, hydrogen-nitrous oxide mixtures, and skeletal reaction mechanisms for alternative fuels like ammonia and dimethyl ether. His work integrates computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with experimental validation to optimize engine performance and reduce emissions.
Bhattacharya leads the CleanSI project (2022–2025), investigating tri-component fuel chemistry for clean spark ignition engines. He has published 23 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to conferences globally. His recent work emphasizes hydrogen combustion modeling and knock mitigation strategies in internal combustion engines.
Collaborations include Texas A&M University, University of Galway, and KAUST. He serves as a reviewer for Combustion and Flame and Asia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering. Key contributions include open-source tools for reaction mechanism optimization and detailed kinetic models for biomass-derived fuels.
