Dr. Athar Ata is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry at Michigan Technological University (MTU), within the College of Sciences and Arts. Previously, he served as Chemistry Professor and Department Chair at the University of Winnipeg, where he received the 2008 Clifford J. Robson Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Karachi (1995) and an MSc from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (1989). His research focuses on isolating pharmaceutical agents from marine organisms, microorganisms, and traditional medicinal plants, alongside studying natural product biosynthesis and microbial transformations. Dr. Ata has contributed to scientific literature and advocates for the Canadian Diabetes Association.
