Athanasios Nenes

Athanassios Nenes is a Full Professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering within the ENAC (School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering). He holds roles in multiple divisions including ENAC-SSIE (Environmental Sciences and Engineering Section) and the CPR (Commission des prix de la recherche) under VPA-FAC. His research focuses on atmospheric processes, aerosol-cloud interactions, and environmental engineering solutions. He leads the LAPI laboratory (Laboratory of Atmospheric Processes and their Impacts), conducting interdisciplinary studies on climate systems and air quality.

Teaching responsibilities include courses such as Introduction to Environmental Engineering, Physics and Chemistry of the Atmosphere, and Thermodynamics of Earth Systems. He advises several PhD students and has supervised theses on topics like aerosol-cloud interactions and climate modeling. His work integrates experimental, computational, and field-based approaches to address global environmental challenges.

He is actively involved in academic administration, serving on research award committees and contributing to curriculum development in environmental sciences. The LAPI lab collaborates internationally on projects related to atmospheric chemistry and climate change mitigation strategies.
