Asya Sigelman is an Associate Professor of Greek, Latin and Classical Studies at Bryn Mawr College. Her research synthesizes traditional Classical philology with modern literary theory, focusing on time and spatiality in Pindar’s odes. She currently works on a monograph exploring Pindar’s compositional unity and its influence on Greek poetics.
Education: Ph.D. in Classics from Brown University.
Research Interests: Homeric epic, Greek lyric poetry, Attic tragedy, ancient novels, and the evolution of Western poetic traditions. She analyzes how ancient texts like Sophocles’ Oedipus at Colonus and Longus’ Daphnis and Chloe engage with themes of prophecy, homecoming, and identity.
Teaching Philosophy: Emphasizes making classical texts relevant to modern students through critical inquiry into language, syntax, and cultural context. Her courses at Bryn Mawr foster a dynamic exchange between pedagogy and scholarship.
