Astrid Røsland Seim is an Associate Professor at NTNU’s Regional Knowledge Center for Children and Young People (RKBU Midt-Norway) within the Department of Mental Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. She splits her time 50% as a consultant at St. Olav’s Hospital’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic and 50% in academic roles. She also serves as regional coordinator for child and adolescent psychiatry specialists in Central Norway.
Education: Cand.med (2004, University of Tromsø), Specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (2012), PhD (2021, NTNU). Her doctoral research focused on attachment disorders in youth in residential care.
Research focuses on communication, interaction, and early intervention in mental health, particularly among vulnerable youth. Key projects include the VINGO follow-up study on institutionalized youth transitioning to adulthood, and mental health in child welfare systems. She leads the CIEL (Communication, Interaction, and Early Intervention in a Life Course Perspective) research group.
Teaching includes coordinating the MDV6202 master’s course on child and adolescent mental health, lecturing in NTNU’s Mental Health program, and training medical students/doctors in psychiatry. Her work spans clinical practice, education, and policy advising in child protection systems.
