Astrid Runggaldier is the Assistant Director of the Mesoamerica Center and an Associate Professor in the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Texas at Austin, College of Liberal Arts. She holds a Ph.D. from Boston University and specializes in Mesoamerican architecture and landscape studies.

Her research focuses on the intersection of architecture, landscape, and cultural practices in Mesoamerica, with a strong emphasis on the art and archaeology of Ancient Peru and the Maya world. She teaches courses such as Art/Archaeology of Ancient Peru, Maya Art and Architecture, and Mesoamerican Art/Culture, covering topics from sculpture to colonial heritage.
