Astrid Huopalainen is an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Leadership for Creativity at Aalto University, affiliated with the Department of Management Studies and the Department of Art and Media. Her research focuses on organization theory, animal organization studies, and critical management studies, employing posthumanist and arts-based methodologies to explore creative labor, gender/diversity inequalities, and multispecies organizing. She leads the Research Council of Finland-funded PAWWS project (2023–2027), which investigates human-animal well-being in work and society, and co-leads the Luova Lämpiö project (2024–2025) fostering cross-sector collaborations in creative industries. Astrid holds a Docent title in Organization and Management (2021) and a PhD in Economics and Business Administration (2016).
Her work addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals through interdisciplinary projects like PAWWS, aiming to advance ethical animal work conditions and multispecies well-being policies. Recent research highlights include multispecies methodological innovations in business ethics, the role of art in understanding animal vulnerabilities, and embodied identity work among working mothers. Astrid has secured significant grants and collaborates internationally across academia and industry sectors.
