Prof. Dr. Astrid Ensslin holds the chair in Dynamics of Virtual Communication Spaces at the University of Regensburg. Her interdisciplinary research spans digital fiction, literary gaming, virtual reality narratives, and critical discourse analysis of gaming communities. She directs the Digital Area Studies Lab (DAS|Lab) developing decolonial approaches to digital literary studies.
With an international academic background, Prof. Ensslin previously held professorships at the University of Bergen, University of Alberta, and Bangor University. Her scholarly work examines the intersections of narrative theory, digital culture, and media linguistics through publications including 'Digital Fiction and the Unnatural' (2021) and 'Literary Gaming' (2014). She currently leads projects on feminist body apps and indigenous game epistemologies.
Education includes a Dr. phil. from Universität Heidelberg and postgraduate qualifications in higher education teaching. Honors include the University of Alberta Research Excellence Award and N. Katherine Hayles Award for electronic literature criticism.
