Astrid Bracher

Professor Astrid Bracher is a faculty member at the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, where she works in the Department of Climate Sciences in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Dr. Bracher specializes in marine and polar research, with particular expertise in:

• Phytoplankton dynamics and absorption characteristics
• Remote sensing of ocean color using satellite instruments
• Climate change impacts on polar marine ecosystems
• Application of multi- and hyper-spectral satellite data

Her research focuses on understanding environmental changes in polar regions through satellite data analysis from instruments like SCIAMACHY and MERIS, with emphasis on marine primary production and bio-physical coupling in ice zones. She investigates how phytoplankton communities respond to environmental changes in both Antarctic and Arctic regions.
