Dr. Asma Mobarek is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University. She has previously taught at the University of Dhaka, University of Botswana and Stockholm University Business School. Dr. Mobarek completed her PhD from the University of Leeds, UK, focusing on stock market efficiency and asset pricing.
Dr. Mobarek's research focuses on the consequences of financial crises on financial markets and investor behavior during crises, corporate governance, and corporate social responsibility. Her work particularly examines the relationship between board composition (especially gender diversity) and social performance in microfinance institutions, corporate governance in Islamic banking, and the impact of ESG factors on financial performance. Her research combines theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis of international financial markets.
Dr. Mobarek has published extensively in leading finance journals including the Journal of Financial Stability, Journal of Financial Services Research, and Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money. Her recent work has explored the role of female directors in microfinance institutions' social responsibility, the impact of global financial crisis on UK firm performance with emphasis on ESG factors, and corporate governance in Islamic banking. Her research demonstrates a consistent focus on understanding financial market dynamics, governance structures, and their implications for stability and performance.

Dr. Mobarek is currently supervising PhD student Huda Mohammad Hagawe Hagawe. She has completed several internally and externally funded research projects throughout her career. Her teaching commitments include International Finance and International Banking courses.
Dr. Mobarek is currently working as a guest editor for the open access Sustainability Journal.
